Shockingly, the minister of Defence has publicly declared support for the Navy officer who engaged in altercation with Wike.
Even if in his judgement the officer conducted himself appropriately, should he have said so publicly so soon after the incident? This action, along with other endorsing commentaries from top retired military officers such as Gen Buratai is very undiplomatic and tactless. It has already started emboldening military men, especially the junior ones to feel that they are free to disrespectfully address anybody not in military uniform including the police. This is dangerous.
For a minister to openly take sides with a military officer against his fellow minister in the same cabinet speaks volumes of the Tinubu administration
