Coming from a humble background, this man has made great success in every sense. With an indelible corruption stain on his name, he fought hard and came close to becoming the number 1 man. I must salute his courage and determination. Having come thus far, he should cap it with magnanimity by conceding and congratulating the winner. Proceeding to court has a high probability of registering deficits and the following are likely to follow:

  1. waste of resources: money, time, energy, etc.
  2. worsening of relationship with the winning side
  3. further division among the people
  4. loss of face after losing in court. Chance of winning the case is very slim.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan is still enjoying the reward of the magnanimity he demonstrated in defeat in 2015. I don’t believe he did not receive reports of election irregularities here and there. He simply thought it wiser to concede from the outset. Most people didn’t think he was a great President. But that last act earned him a special place in history. Atiku Abubakar should emulate Goodluck Jonathan.
