The exchanges between Abba Kyari and Hushpuppi as relayed on TVC are quite alarming. The ease with which a top criminal could achieve and enjoy cordial relationship with a top anti-crime agent is nothing short of frightening. Who knows when any of us will be picked up by a cop on the orders of an adversary? True, Abba Kyari has not been found guilty yet, the mere fact that he has associated with Hushpuppi on such a level and warrant for his arrest issued by such a popular and reputable agency as FBI is very disturbing.

Nigerians have always known for sure that top criminals cannot be getting away scot-free without some form of understanding with those who are supposed to hold them to account. How many Abba Kyaris do we still have in the NPF, enjoying undue popularity? Can a Nigerian police officer really get to the top without getting involved in such collaborations/condonations?

Back to the guilt in all of us. The top criminals in question are known to us, live among us. They have brothers, sisters, parents, friends, associates, and neighbours among us. Instead of reporting them and following up, we provide them with the environment suitable for them to flaunt their ill-gotten wealth with nauseating flagrance by tolerating them, accepting them, and even seeking out friendships with them. We still wonder why Nigeria is not working well.
