Ngige, are you sure of your claim? Have you checked the figures? High doctor density in urban areas can’t mean surplus doctors remember. Without cross checking the figures, I am inclined to believe that Nigeria doesn’t have enough doctors yet.

What you should be telling us is what government is doing to ensure good doctor distribution in the rural areas. If your incentives are not yielding the desired results you should be switching gears. I know some rural communities in Nigeria where people still travel long distances to see the doctor.

Do you mean you are comfortable with that?  To throw our gates wide open for our medical professionals (and indeed all others) to flock out of the country without regard to whether they are our best materials or not is, in my mind, not the best.

This practice cannot be justified by the fact that some traveled out and came back 20, 30 years later and set up medical facilities after they are spent. Our best brains can, instead be encouraged to get exposure and come back. Please let’s hear you again soon after you have checked the figures.

By the way, is there really anything good we have in excess in this country apart from potential? And potential is just that, potential! I know on the other hand we have excess crime, but we should not export it. We should cook it and eat it because we created it!
