NASS asks FG to terminate arrangement with DISCOs. Steady power supply no doubt has remained a mirage despite all the restructuring and name changing all the way from ECN, NEPA, PHCN & now DISCOs, GENCOs & TCN. After termination, what next? We rearrange? Fine. And we expect a different result? Self-delusion! Pure and simple. Not until the causes are dealt with, we will continue to live in fool’s paradise. The causes? Human attitude fueled by lack of demand for accountability.
Some experts have blamed the failure of current arrangement on structural defects from the very beginning. If this is true, will those responsible for the defects be held to account? Never, not in this country. Why then would the next team of experts execute a similar assignment with the seriousness it deserves? Some say the failure is largely due to FG’s continued failure to fulfill its own part of the bargain. If this is true, will those responsible be held to account? Never. Yes, human beings operate the machinery of government. Why then would government bother to respect agreements?
And why would businessmen trust agreements with government? Whichever way you look, the root cause is the same. I know some will keep arguing that structure is the problem and not attitude. No problem. We are in a democracy, we all move in the direction we choose until (according to Kagame) we fall so low that there is no more space for further falling, we will then have no option than to start coming up.
